Michigan's Adventure - August 3rd and 4th, 2025
From August 3rd to August 6th, 2025, my mom and I visited Michigan's Adventure and Six Flags Great America!
After setting out on the road just after 7am, we arrived at Michigan's Adventure before 2pm for our first-ever visit to this lovely park! Michigan's Adventure is located in Muskegon, Michigan and is home to a nice collection of rides and roller coasters. During our day and a half visit to Michigan's Adventure, I was able to ride many rides and all the park's roller coasters, with the exception of Thunderhawk as it was closed for maintenance.
While we used our legacy Six Flags Membership passes (with all-park passports) to gain admission to the parks on this trip, I was surprised to learn that my all-parks dining plan on my 2026 Canada's Wonderland Gold Pass (with all-park passport through the recent promotion) could be used to redeem meals during our time at Michigan's Adventure. The employees at Guest Services were extremely helpful in regards to confirming this for me! So, if you now have a 'legacy Cedar Fair' 2026 Gold season pass with the all-park dining plan, you can currently use it at legacy Cedar Fair parks through 2025 and then be able to use it at all Six Flags parks in 2026!
We really enjoyed our first-ever visit to Michigan's Adventure and look forward to visiting again in the future! Be sure look at the photos from our visit! 🙂🎢
August 3rd:
As you enter the parking lot at Michigan's Adventure, you are greeted by Shivering Timbers, a massive out-and-back wooden roller coaster that opened in 1998!
Here's the entrance gate at Michigan's Adventure. Michigan's Adventure opened in 1956 as 'Deer Park', a petting zoo featuring small animals and a storybook land for small children. In 1968, the park was bought by Roger Jourden. In 1972, the park was renamed 'Deer Park Funland', with the addition of three rides which consisted of a Tilt-A-Whirl, carousel, and Ferris wheel. over the years, more rides were added. In 1979, the first roller coaster, Corkscrew opened at the park. Jumping to 1988, the park was renamed Michigan's Adventure with the addition of the Wolverine Wildcat. The Jourden family would continue to add rides and roller coasters to Michigan's Adventure until it was sold to Cedar Fair in 2001. Cedar Fair has maintained this park extremely well over the years, including the older rides at the park. In July 2024, Cedar Fair and Six Flags merged, forming Six Flags Entertainment Company. It'll be interesting to see what comes to Michigan's Adventure in the future!
Once through the gates, my first ride at Michigan's Adventure was the Corkscrew. Manufactured by Arrow Development, Corkscrew opened at the park in 1979.
Corkscrew features a 70 foot drop followed by two corkscrew inversions.
Surprisingly, Corkscrew was very smooth and enjoyable for its age!
Here's a look at the layout of Michigan's Adventure. While the park is a c-shape, it is a full loop if you take a ride on the Timbertown Railway. Michigan's Adventure is also home to WildWater Adventure, a large water park.
Here's a look towards the Logger's Run log flume and classic Trabant ride.
At the center of Michigan's Adventure is a lake that is very photogenic! A boardwalk pathway goes over a corner of the lake.
Up next for me was a ride on Wolverine Wildcat, a wooden roller coaster manufactured by Dinn Corporation that opened in 1988. Wolverine Wildcat's design was heavily inspired by the Phoenix at Knoebels, featuring many airtime hills within its 3,000 feet of track.
As someone who loves the Phoenix at Knoebels, I greatly enjoyed the Wolverine Wildcat! While it might not be as smooth as the Phoenix, Wolverine Wildcat has a really fun layout and became one of my favourite roller coasters at Michigan's Adventure!
On the lake is a Swan Boat ride that is included with admission. My mom and I would take a spin on it later in the day!
Up next was a ride on Shivering Timbers! This massive wooden roller coaster manufactured by Custom Coasters International (CCI) opened at Michigan's Adventure in 1998 and stands 125 feet tall with a track length of almost 5,400 feet, with multiple airtime hills before finishing the ride with a 630° helix! It is quite aggressive and thrilling ride!
As mentioned, Michigan's Adventure is home to a handful of classic rides. One of them is the Thunderbolt. This ride has been a crowd-pleaser since its debut in 1988. it rides well, but is missing its canopy.
Up next was a ride on the Trabant, a somewhat rare Chance Rides Trabant ride. I had been on newer versions of the Trabant such as the Wipeout and the Freestyle. It was nice to finally experience the original version of the ride. While operating on a milder cycle, it was still very fun!
Across from the Trabant is the Flying Trapeze, a Chance Yo-Yo ride. It was also quite fun and a bit freaky as the seats swivel back and forth as you swing around! 😂
After a ride on Flying Trapeze, I was quite hungry. So after a visit to Guest Services, it was confirmed I was able to use my 2026 all-parks dining plan on my Gold Pass. With my dining plan, I got to a cheese burger with fries from the Wildcat Grill. It was quite tasty! My only wish for Michigan's Adventure is to see more options than just burgers, fries, chicken tenders, and pizza offered on their menu.
After my meal, my mom and I boarded the Timbertown Railway, a Chance Rides train ride.
The train offers some views of Shivering Timbers as it takes you through a small forested area that takes you to the north end of the park.
Here's my mom and I on the Timbertown Railway.
The train felt quite remote as it passed through a small forest.
We got off at the station near Thunderhawk and Grand Rapids. As the temperature was quite hot, I took a spin on the Grand Rapids river rapids ride to cool off! The ride finishes with a large waterfall that soaks riders! 😂
During our visit, Thunderhawk was closed due to maintenance. Thunderhawk is a Suspended Looping Coaster (SLC) that was manufactured by Vekoma. While it debuted at Michigan's Adventure in 2008, it originally began its life at the former Geauga Lake of Aurora, Ohio as Serial Thriller in 1998. Geauga Lake closed its amusement rides in 2007 and operated solely as a water park until labor day of 2016. It is said that Thunderhawk is the smoothest Vekoma SLC with its original trains. As it was closed due to maintenance, I wasn't able to find that out. Hopefully I'll be able to find out on a future visit!
The test seat of Thunderhawk is the closest my mom has gotten on a roller coaster! For anyone that knows her, she does not do roller coasters or any thrill rides! 🤣
Across from Thunderhawk is Ripcord, a tall Sky Coaster attraction. It was very popular during our visit.
The lake at Michigan's Adventure is quite beautiful.
The Swan boats provided a scenic ride as you peddle around.
The latest paint job on Thunderhawk is quite eye catching!
After a soaking ride on Grand Rapids and a relaxing ride on the Swan Boats, I then took a spin on Zach's Zoomer, the park's family wooden roller coaster. Zach's Zoomer opened in 1994 and is named after Roger Jourden's grandson, Zach. The layout is very similar to that of Woodstock Express at Kings Island and Ghoster Coaster at Canada's Wonderland.
The Giant Gondola Wheel opened at Michigan's Adventure in 1989. While I didn't ride it during our visit, I did notice its blue, orange, red, and yellow colour scheme was quite nice.
Up next was a ride on the classic Scrambler! This unit moves quite fast!
After a ride on Scrambler, I took a spin on the Tilt-A-Whirl. This unit rides quite well and offers a significant amount of spinning!
To finish our first-day at the park, I took a ride on Mad Mouse! This insane wild mouse coaster opened at Michigan's Adventure in 1999 and was manufactured by Arrow Dynamics, featuring many hairpin turns and quick drops! While four Mad Mouse units were manufactured by Arrow Dynamics, only three exist to this day.
Mad Mouse may look mild, but those turns are quite menacing! 😂
After a great first day at Michigan's Adventure it was time to head out as the park closed at 8pm.
As we were heading back to my car, I captured this photo of a smoke-filtered sun as it lowered into the horizon behind the Giant Gondola Wheel.
From the parking lot, you can see the road sign for Michigan's Adventure.
August 4th:
On our second day (August 4th), we got to the park around 10am to be there for opening at 11am. Here's a view of Shivering Timbers and its many airtime hills from the parking lot toll booths.
As we were among the first into the parking lot for the day, we managed to get a parking spot closer to the park entrance.
My first ride of the day was on the Sea Dragon. This airtime-filled swinging ship was manufactured by Chance Rides and opened at the park in 1987. Sea Dragon's placement over the water added to the ride experience!
From the exit path of Sea Dragon, you can get a great view of Wolverine Wildcat. As Sea Dragon exits along the Wolverine Wildcat, I just had to take another ride on this fun roller coaster!
Afterwards, I circled back around to take a spin on the Dodgems. It features police and taxi themed cars with poles that light up.
Up next was a ride on Lakeside Gliders, a Larson Flying Scooters ride. The gondolas sure swung high on this unit!
Just after 12pm, Logger's Run, an Arrow log flume opened for the day. Logger's Run opened in 1983 and features a journey that takes riders in log-shaped boats high above the ground before plunging down the only drop!
The landscaping and theming was quite nice near the Timbertown Railway station.
Here's a look at the Timbertown train on a sunny, Monday morning.
Once at the north-end of the park, we ate lunch at Chicken Hawk's. My first meal of the day was chicken tenders with a side of sweet potato waffle fries. It were all quite good and the waffle fries were crispy!
After lunch, I rode Adventure Falls, a splash boat ride. Adventure Falls is not very noticeable from the main path as it is wedged between Grand Rapids and Ripcord.
It is a very refreshing ride with a splashdown finale!
After I got drenched on Adventure Falls, we made our way towards the Carousel. On our way, I captured this photo of the Swan Boats.
The Carousel is a standard Chance Rides carousel featuring various animals.
We took a ride on the goat and ostrich.
After a relaxing spin on the Carousel, my mom got her photo taken with Lucy in the Camp Snoopy section at Michigan's Adventure.
Since the line was very short, I took a ride on Woodstock Express, a Chance Rides Big Dipper model roller coaster. It is geared towards children, but still provides a fun ride for guests of all ages as the train navigates the circuit twice! Of interest, it opened at the park in 1999 as Big Dipper and was moved to its current location in 2021 for the addition of Camp Snoopy.
I then joined the queue again for another ride on the Corkscrew! Its two inversions are hidden behind the trees!
Here's a look at the drop on Logger's Run.
Michigan's Adventure is home to a 18-hole mini golf course called Rocky Point Mini Golf. At $5 per person, they get to try their skill along a wonderfully themed and somewhat tricky mini golf course. My mom and I didn't score too well, but greatly enjoyed the course!
I'd highly recommend trying out Rocky Point mini golf course!
There's a giant water fall in the middle of the course which feeds some of the water traps along the course.
I took another ride on Shivering Timbers followed by another ride on Timbertown Railway. Here's a train-load of passengers heading up the lift hill on Shivering Timbers.
This time around, we did a full journey on Timbertown Railway. On the return trip, you pass through a tunnel.
My second meal of the day was a cheese burger and salad from Coasters Diner. It was nice having a salad as a side for a change!
Here I am in the test seat of Thunderhawk. As I mentioned before, it remained closed during our visit due to maintenance. I'll get it next time!
As the evening came to a close, we boarded the Timbertown Railway one last time.
Before heading out, I took some more rides on the Scrambler, Thunderbolt, Tilt-A-Whirl, Flying Trapeze, Trabant, and the Wolverine Wildcat!
Here's my mom and I posing in front of a Snoopy statue before heading out.
We had a wonderful time at Michigan's Adventure! It is a great park with many fun rides and roller coasters! I definitely recommend it! 😊🎢 Up next are photos from our two days at Six Flags Great America! 🙂
